Therapy for Men in Bedford, NH
You can take a break from being the strong one all the time.
You've been handling things on your own for most of your life—and for a while, it worked.
But lately, you’re completely out of your depth. Maybe you’re getting so angry sometimes you punch a wall before you can stop the emotion from bubbling over. Or you go the other way and shut down to avoid your emotions entirely—but then your wife calls you “cold.”
Maybe your adult children want nothing to do with you, you’re managing your parents’ failing health and your siblings don’t seem to care, your wife feels more like a roommate than a romantic partner—and through it all, you’re expected to be “the man of the house” and a pillar of stability.
In the past, you could push through, have a drink, or spend more time at the office. But that’s not doing it for you anymore, and you don’t know how to stop your life from falling apart.
YOU MIGHT BE…
Afraid your temper is going to cost you your marriage or your job, but the more you try to stuff it down, the more volatile it becomes.
Waking up panicking multiple nights a week, when it used to be a very rare thing.
Recently retired or being pushed to walk away from a career that's defined you for decades, and you don't know who you are without it.
Dealing with a health crisis that changed how you function—maybe a brain injury or heart attack—and you don't have a way to manage stress anymore because your old methods aren't available to you.
Watching someone you love decline, like a parent or a spouse, and trying to keep your own life together while you prepare for the inevitable.
So hard on yourself that most days you can’t find anything you like about your life. You don’t take care of yourself the way you used to and you’re losing the motivation to even try
MY APPROACH
You simply don’t need to have everything handled all the time.
A lot of our early work will be about helping you understand what you’re experiencing, why you’re experiencing it, and how to move through it. I’ll introduce practical tools you can start using right away—so you know you’re leaving our sessions with something tangible that you can put into action.
When you’re ready to go deeper, we can work together to trace your emotions back to where they started. I might draw it out on the whiteboard or walk you through a worksheet if that clicks for you. Once we do a little digging, we can put a plan in place to help you make lasting changes.
I offer walk-and-talk or art-based sessions too, so we don’t have to spend all our time in the office or sitting on a couch.
From the start, I'll be straight about what I think could help you, but you’re ultimately in control of everything that happens in session. However we approach our therapy work, I want it to be the best possible use of your time. If something isn’t right for you, tell me and I’ll adjust.
As a man, going to therapy can help you…
Recognize what you're feeling and name it, so you can do something about it before it comes out as anger, withdrawal, or something you regret.
01
Understand why you react the way you do and start running your own life instead of being caught off guard by your behavior.
02
Be kinder to yourself, genuinely, and start enjoying who you are instead of tearing yourself apart over every mistake.
03
Let people in and ask for help when you need it—and watch your relationships get stronger because of it.
04
Give yourself room to not have it all figured out and realize that's actually okay.
05
Know from your own experience that you're capable of change, because you've already started doing it.

COMMON QUESTIONS

We'll start with a free 15-minute consultation so you can ask me anything you want about how I work. If we decide to move forward, our first session is about getting to know your history and what's going on in your life and figuring out what would be most helpful. I'll explain how I work, walk you through any relevant diagnoses in plain terms, and we'll set goals together based on what matters to you. There's no script and no pressure to share more than you're ready to.

I've worked with men across a wide range of ages and life stages, from teens and young adults figuring themselves out, to guys in their forties managing work stress and strained marriages, to men in their seventies navigating retirement, grief, and health challenges. Before starting my own practice, I spent years in community mental health settings where I worked with people through intense anger, suicidality, substance use, and trauma. I'm also trained in CBT, which is the foundation of a lot of the work I do with men around anxiety, anger, and depression. I'm direct, I won't waste your time, and I'm not going to ask you to do anything that doesn't make sense for your situation.

If you're in immediate crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. You don’t need to be suicidal to call and receive support.
If you're not in crisis but you've been having thoughts that scare you, I want to talk about that honestly in your next session. Having a suicidal thought isn’t necessarily an issue. What matters is what happens after that thought, whether you have a plan, whether you're safe, and what support looks like for you right now. I encourage you to be open with me and we can work through it together.

You don't have to do anything you don't want to do. Some of my clients prefer to focus on practical tools and strategies, and we spend most of our time on that. Others eventually get into deeper conversations about what's driving their stress or their anger. We go where you want to go, and if I suggest something that doesn't feel useful, you tell me and we try something else.

Yes. I see clients in person at my office in Bedford, New Hampshire, and online across New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont. For online sessions, I offer talk therapy and art therapy.

A lot of the men I work with got here that way, and most of them will tell you they're glad they came even if it wasn't their idea. I'm not going to tell you whether your wife is right or wrong. I won’t pick sides at all. We'll focus our time on you and what you’re going through, and I'll be upfront about what I think could help. You get a free 15-minute call with me before committing to anything, so you can ask me whatever you want and decide for yourself if this makes sense.
